Meet this month's Featured Staff Member: Stevie Kaplan
This month, we sat down with the first face you see when you walk in our doors: the fabulous Stevie Kaplan. Keep reading to find out more about her surprising skating background, her hands-down favorite ice cream flavor and more!
What do you do here at the clinic?
Front desk, receptionist, scheduling, customer service extraordinaire, phone answerer, comic relief and all around good guy.
What drew you to St. Luke's?
I was introduced to Trish through a family member. I used to have a phobia about doctors, so Trish was exactly what I needed.
What other fun jobs have you had in the past?
Besides being a receptionist, I've also worked as "Odie" the Roller-blading Clown, a mime, a professional face painter (for the Colorado Eagles and at Cheyenne Frontier Days), and I've been known to deliver a couple of singing telegrams. I was also a certified massage therapist.
What is your favorite thing about working here?
The patients! I have become very attached to so many of them. I also enjoy my co-workers and how we start our mornings off with prayer. It's just another great way of sending hope and healing with our prayer intentions.
What is your favorite way to spend your free time?
With my grandkids...they have me wrapped around their little fingers! I also enjoy riding my bike, going out to eat (italian/mexican) or watching a good movie.
What can't you live without?
Is it wrong to say Tequila? Actually, the answer is my husband. He still rocks my world! (I also can't live without food and clothing because I don't like being hungry or cold).
If you were an ice cream flavor, what would you be and why?
Vanilla all the way! First of all, vanilla is my favorite flavor, and second, vanilla is the foundation for most ice cream mixtures. I feel like I try and create a foundation of strength for life's mixtures at home and at work.
What movie title best sums you up?
A STAR IS BORN. I have a quick wit and with an inner comedian & actress who likes to dance and sing. Maybe someday my inner star will be discovered!
What song would you sing at karaoke night?
The last time I sang karaoke, it was "Fishin in the Dark" by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. I used to play that song all the time, and to this day, my kids will call me laughing because they just heard that song on the radio.
What book, show or podcast are you loving right now?
Masterchef Jr.! Have you seen those kids cook?
What brings you joy?
Life and what it has to offer, along with what I can contribute. I have 4 children, 6 grandchildren, and 3 step-grandchildren. That's a lot of joy!
What gives you hope?
Positivity, kindness and prayer.
Anything else you want to add?
How much time do you have? I usually have so much to say. LOL. The only thing I would like to add is that it has been such a wonderful experience working at St. Luke's for the past 2 years, and I'm looking forward to many more.
My motto: Kill 'em with kindness, laugh as much as possible, and always drink to world peace. :)
